Class for September 20, 2009

Today in class we spent a significant amount reflecting on our own pieces of writing and how we can improve on our pieces of writing for our final draft due Wednesday. We began the class        analyzing our own essays and writing an outline for our essay. This helped us to determine the structure that our essay was to take. We then used this outline to determine whether or not our essay followed the trail that our thesis statement laid out. Two students’ thesis statements were put on the projector in order to help them to revise the statement. My thesis statement was one of the two we talked about. I found the class to be engaged and honest about my thesis statement. It did need work and with the help of the class I was able to structure a good statement. After structuring and analyzing the statements we made an outline of the two essays based on the thesis statement. We learned that a person should be able to determine the roadmap for the essay based simply on the thesis statement. That thus requires that the statement be specific.
