I posted something similiar before and I saw it posted then somehow now I don’t see it. I said that the story opens up with a funeral for Emily. then the story recalls her tragic life. I thought the story was a bit confusing. I did understand that Emily had a close relationship with her father and she had a hard time coping when he died. She didn’t even want to let them bury him.
Emily went to a drugstore to buy posion. She posioned her boyfriend (if I recall correctly) in the attic of their house on the bed. In the end they found him on the bed dead and he was dead a long time, because it was impossible to seperate him and the bed. They also a strand of gry hair which was Emily’s. That means that she was sleepin with him for many years after she had killed him.

The story A Rose for Emily to me was sad. she was depressed about her father being dead, and he was the only close one to her in her life. she did not want to admitt that he was no longer alive. she kept her self in the dark and away from everyboby. their was only once when she came out after her father died and that was when the guy who was working on the road started to talk to her. that gave her a little life back but after he was gone the same thing went on again. which made Emily not come out again. also i think the neighbors were too much into her business. they knew everything about her and her entire family’s past.

The Story takes place first at a funeral for Emily Rose. The people of the town attended it to pay there respects. It was confusing at first because it began with her death and then tells you how it happened. Emily became very lonely after her farther’s death. She still believed he was still alive after the tradegy. Until she met a man named Homer Baron. After a while she found out he wasn’t going to marry her. So she went balistic about it and wanted to kill him. She wanted to do this so he could never leave. So now she gives him poison and kills him. Emily puts Baron on the bed beside her. I say that because of the gray piece hair they found. I think she could’nt stay alone so she had to do this to keep her sanity.

The story began with the ending, in which Emily has passed away. at first it seemed quite confusing and i did not really understand what was goin on. however the ending made it clear. the poison she had bought was for Homer. She had Poisoned him. After her Fathers death she got very lonely. the only person left in her life was Homer, so when she heard that he use to go see men and was not going to marry her she went crazy. she decided to poison him so he would be with her forever, even if its just his body. the story was interesting and i enjoyed reading it.

“A rose for Emily” seems to be filled greatly with contradictions. The narrator, as well as the townspeople appeared at first viewed the funeral with nostalgic affection, as if a beloved grandmother or the kind old lady that always gave candy to the neighbor kids. But as the story went on, it became clearer that they didn’t care that much for her, if fact, it was almost as if they were waiting for her to die, as if they were waiting for a bad smell to go away. Even when she was alive there were mixed feeling about her, when she was “married (the narrator never spoke of a engagement or a wedding ” to her ” husband (it was said that he was most likely gay)”, there was mixed signals; at first they pitied her for getting together with him, then they say it was good that they were “married”, then they said he left her, and after they find his body in the house, they appeared more surprised that he wasn’t buried then he was stayed with her. The taxes on her house, her family, her upbringing, even her family’s status in the community – all of these are so crisscrossed that it’s almost impossible to keep up and pieced together with the life of Emily Grierson. In the end though, I couldnt help but feel sorry for Emily, in the fact that her entire life felt harsh: her father’s unflinching standard’s for her, the coldness she felt from the town, her “marriage”, her relatives (supposed) treatment of her, even her funeral was tragic; in the fact that the townspeople were really there, either out of obligation or just to get into her house, even her butler didn’t seem to hold her in that high regard; simply vanishing after greeting the guest, and after everything that’s happen to her, all she gets is a rose.

the story A Rose for Emily was very interesting to me. It showed the effect on a person after very close people die. Mrs Emily lost her father and then she would only go out sometimes but when she lost the love of her life she didnt leave at all. She had a young boy go to the store for her and had a black man who seemed like her servant. It was sad when the wanted her to pay taxes and was talking about how her house smells. They even came into her yard and started to spray lime. I think that was uncalled for since she was going through a difficult time in her life.

In the story, Miss Emily’s funeral was attended by people of the town: men who came to pay their respect and women with their curiosity. People viewed Miss Emily very differently as the time passes. The neighborhood would jump in to conclusions because Miss Emily had a much concealed life. The death of her father isolated herself more from the neighborhood and when Homer Barron showed up, her lifestyle has changed but this did not last very long. Presence of Homer disappeared from the town and Miss Emily spent her life on her own till her death. At the end of her funeral, people broke down one of her doors which was closed for more than 40 years, and found that Homer Barron’s rotting corpse was rotting on the bed surrounded by men’s clothing and accessories. The environment surrounding Miss Emily drove her to insanity. This story was strange and somewhat disturbing to me because it had similar plots to some of the psychotic movies.
